    Scholarship FAQs

  • Yes. Most SGU scholarships are reviewed automatically once you’re accepted — there’s no separate application required. Our Scholarship Committee evaluates every accepted student based on factors like academic performance, leadership and service, clinical exposure and research, and community involvement. A smaller number of specialized scholarships do require an additional application (see below).

  • Scholarship decisions from automatic review are communicated during the admissions process, shortly after you’re accepted. If you’ve also applied to one of our specialized, application-based scholarships, you’ll be notified separately — typically within 10 business days of that program’s application deadline.

  • No. Most scholarship support is considered automatically as part of your admissions review — you don’t need to submit anything extra. A few specialized, mission-based scholarships (such as our community-partnership and health equity programs) do require a separate application with their own eligibility criteria and deadlines. Your admissions counselor can help you determine which, if any, apply to you.

  • Yes. International students are automatically considered for scholarship support upon acceptance, just like our other regions — no separate application is required for standard consideration. Because award amounts and eligibility vary by citizenship and program, we encourage you to speak with an admissions counselor for details specific to your situation.

  • Automatically reviewed scholarships are considered for every accepted student as part of the admissions process, based on factors like academic performance and leadership — there’s nothing extra to submit. Application-based scholarships are separate, specialized programs that require you to submit an additional application and meet program-specific eligibility criteria, usually by a set deadline.

  • Yes. Being automatically considered for one scholarship doesn’t prevent you from also applying to our additional-application programs if you meet their eligibility criteria — many students combine multiple forms of support. Your admissions counselor can help you understand the full range of options available to you.
