Professional Expertise, Interests and Research Areas:

Dr. Ulrike Zieger is a part-time Professor of Physiology in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology. Her teaching experience includes veterinary physiology and pathophysiology, wildlife conservation and ecology, and veterinary acupuncture. Her main area of research focuses on wildlife diseases with an emphasis on the rabies situation in Grenada.

Before joining SGUSVM, Dr. Zieger taught veterinary physiology at the LMU Munich in Germany, and pathophysiology and clinical pathology at Makerere University Kampala, Uganda. She engaged in wildlife-related research at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and worked in the field of wildlife management in Zambia and Tanzania.

Recently, Dr. Zieger explored the field of veterinary acupuncture and has been actively involved in teaching and practicing acupuncture in Grenada.

Dr. Zieger earned her DVM degree (1980) and a German Doctorate degree (1982) from the Veterinary Faculty, LMU Munich, Germany. Her BSc (Hon) and MSc degrees (1995 & 1998) in wildlife management were earned from the Wildlife Center of Pretoria University, South Africa.
