Dr. Ladislav Novotny is a board-certified veterinary pathologist with an extensive international career in diagnostic pathology, academia, and aquatic animal health. With over two decades of experience, his expertise spans anatomic pathology in companion animals, fish, and toxicologic pathology.
Dr. Novotny is a Diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and the European College of Aquatic Animal Health (ECAAH), Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, and is a certified aquatic veterinarian by WAVMA. His academic journey began at the Veterinary University Brno, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (MVDr) and later completed a PhD in veterinary pathology. He also holds a Master’s degree in Fish Breeding and Hydrobiology from Mendel University in Brno.
His professional roles have included senior pathology appointments in both Europe and the United States. Most recently, he served as Clinical Associate Professor and Senior Pathologist at Purdue University’s Department of Comparative Pathobiology and Indiana ADDL. He was also a Diagnostic Pathologist at Finn Pathologists in the UK and held academic positions at the University of Surrey, Veterinary University Brno, and Charles University in Prague.
Dr. Novotny is a prolific researcher with over 100 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. His work encompasses a wide range of topics including fish and wildlife pathology, zoonotic infections, toxicologic pathology, and neoplastic diseases in animals. Notable contributions include reports on emerging parasitic diseases in reptiles, novel aquatic pathogens, and toxicologic profiles of nerve agents. He has also authored textbook chapters and review articles in high-impact journals such as Journal of Aquatic Animal Health, Parasitology, Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice, and Journal of Comparative Pathology. His collaborative research has extended to multiple continents and involved interdisciplinary studies with clinicians, toxicologists, and molecular biologists.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association, and the European Society of Veterinary Pathologists.
