Dr. Jan Misík is a Czech toxicologist and zoologist with a robust interdisciplinary background in biomedicine, chemical defense, neurotoxicology, and pharmacological research. He has worked for many years as head of a veterinary diagnostic laboratory and also has 15 years of experience in running a private veterinary practice for companion animals.
Dr. Misík earned his PhD in Toxicology from the University of Defence, and holds RNDr. (Raerum Naturalium Doctor) and MSc degrees in Zoology and Systematic Biology from Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Over his career, he has contributed extensively to translational research with both civilian and military applications, including decontamination methods for chemical warfare agents, antidotal treatments for nerve agent poisoning, and the behavioral effects of cholinesterase inhibitors in experimental models of Alzheimer’s disease.
His scientific output includes over 50 peer-reviewed publications in leading toxicology, pharmacology, neuroscience, and biomedical journals. Among his most cited contributions are studies on novel oxime reactivators, bioscavengers for organophosphates, and cholinergic system modulators. His collaborative work spans both experimental pharmacology and applied toxicology, with demonstrated impact in fields such as dermatotoxicology, behavioral pharmacology, and medicinal chemistry.
Beyond his research, Dr. Misík has served as head of a behavioral laboratory, contributed to veterinary toxicology services, and participated in international training at institutions in France and the UK. He also maintains a strong interest in zoology and ecology, with early academic work focusing on woodpecker nesting behavior.
Dr. Misík also received formal pedagogical training. He is a former member of the Society for Neuroscience and brings a rare combination of field-based veterinary experience and laboratory-based neurotoxicology expertise.
