    Dr. Afroza Khanam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery in the School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Khanam assists with teaching various large animal clinical labs in the DVM curriculum and serves as a Course Director for the Small Animal Nutrition course.

    Her interests include teaching of clinical skills using simulation models. She is also very passionate about research and the focus of her current research is on carbon nanoparticles and evaluation of their antimicrobial activity. She collaborates on other research projects focused on food safety, zoonotic diseases, tick borne diseases, public health related research and equine reproduction.

    Dr. Khanam earned her BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees from Dr. Hari Singh Gaur University in India. She worked as a postdoctoral research fellow for 3 years at the Defense Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), India. Her postdoctoral research involved synthesizing and characterizing different types of nanomaterials and composite polymers. Recently, Dr. Khanam earned her MPH degree from St. George’s University and was inducted into the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health.
